The hijackers don't count. They weren't victims, they chose their fate.
Perhaps, but they still rank among the dead, and excluding them shortchanges the scope of tragedy.

Ain't none of you got a clue about what it's really like to remember 9/11.

Urgh, that kind of mindset makes the west even more of a big, juicy target. Where's your backbone?

Wow, just finished reading the
whole thread. Foubister, you've got to be kidding, you were further away from the whole thing than we were**. You may live in the capital, but the little acknowledged martimes provinces are one hell of a target: New Brunswick as the harbor, the oil refinery, and the nuclear power plant in the same friggin' area; Nova Scotia has the major Halifax port; and PEI has...potatoes and cows. I don't count Newfoundland as being part of the other maritime provinces. :p
I'm not sure if this is even worth replying to. The only other place in Canada that would be as much of a target as the nation's capital would be Toronto for it's financial aspect.

It's the shit like this that I have an issue with. You're comparing watching something on TV in another f*ckin' country as being the the same as a deeply personal and psychological attack. If you're naive enough to watch the news for years, and movies about terriorists blowing up major landmarks, and not realize that this shit actually
does happen; then that's your problem, not ours.
EDIT: I saw the second tower go down live, GBM. On TV, that is.
**I just checked my map, turns out Ontario IS closer to New York...My bad.
Did you even read my post? Most of us have never watched a terrorist attack in REAL TIME. We've always see the aftermath.

Why?
Because my anti-depressants aren't THAT good.

I traded it in for a heart.
Ulukai on 11/9/2007 at 16:34
It's not a question of heart, but one of resolve.

Foubister, from the tone of your posts, I'd actually be surprised if you were even in elementary school when the attacks happened.
I also saw the second plane hit live on the web. It was a little after lunch time here, and since I work for an american company we were sent home for the rest of the day. It was a tragic moment, like all moments when the senseless loss of human lives happens are. What I don't need is to have 9/11 shoved down my throat all the time. Besides, 9/11 was already a sad date since 1973.

CNN and all the other alphabet news org's love this sort of story, it takes no real work to edit these sappy, weepy remembrance news shorts. It's the same rehashed bullflop year after year... and it doesn't make a damned difference if it's "news" about 9/11 or "Big Boobed Blond Girl is Missing/Dead/Murdered".
Our journalists suck, big media sucks and I'm sick of being force fed junk food news.
