Haven't we done this thread already?

I think this thread was done about the time that it got moved to CommChat to its OP's horror. I bet there'd be more than a little support for a 'Riding the Butterfly' forum to hold the saccharine Off Topic talk that wants to go in ThiefGen. But then I guess CommChat wouldn't get as many lit fuses like this one turned out to be. A post like the OP wouldn't have been written like that because the general response it got would (or should) have been expected.
I like to look at conspiracy sites sometimes the way I like to look at Tarot ... sort of a weird fascination with people's emotions drudging up all these wild ideas to the point they can convince themselves, and what sort of stories they can actually spin out of the facts they imagine they find. And I like the whole anti-establishment spirit of it ... who wouldn't like to stick it to the man if there were a real basis? ... which sometimes there is. But I can't stomach it as something to be taken seriously. There's plenty of dirt to dig up and have fun with without resorting to weirdo conspiracy theorizing.

That was the best laugh I've had all week. Someone should poke GBM more often.

Well, as long as this topic is still up.
Here's a good editorial today: (

Quote Posted by Thomas Friedman
9/11 has made us stupid. I honor, and weep for, all those murdered on that day. But our reaction to 9/11 — mine included — has knocked America completely out of balance, and it is time to get things right again. ...
We can't afford to keep being this stupid! We have got to get our groove back. We need a president who will unite us around a common purpose, not a common enemy. Al Qaeda is about 9/11. We are about 9/12, we are about the Fourth of July — which is why I hope that anyone who runs on the 9/11 platform gets trounced.
