Dude, you just haven't thought through most of the things you've just posted. Or maybe you have. I don't know which would be worse.

Then they say Jesus is god's son. Then they say Mary was jesus wife or he just had a one night stand or something along those lines...
You've been listening to the wrong "they."

Not just these days and not just Christianity. Judaist business supports Judaist business, Islamic business supports Islamic business (at least Islam is less hypocritical in questions of profit- Quaran openly says that Allah created man to make business.) ... The more material side of religion.
One thing to keep in mind.. this sort of tribalism in not merely confined to religious movements. Most of us do this is one form or another, and it's only natural. A lot of boycotts are politically motivated for example. Cultural and ethnic burrows exist all over. In short, it's easier to trust those which you relate to.

Most Christians don't see God as vengeful
So they're not familiar with his work, then?

You could humbly and devotionally follow an evil god who demands the kicking of puppies.
THAT'S MORE LIKE IT. Where do I sign up?

They always say "God is the lord, God is light, God is peace, God is love, then they say "Jesus is god". Then they say Jesus is god's son. Then they say Mary was god's wife or he just had a one night stand or something along those lines...
What the fuck are you talking about? Who's "they"? This sounds more like a buffet that you've concocted from 700 Club fly-by's and conversations with 8 year olds. The Bible uses the analogies you list pretty often. Theologically Jesus is God, and God's son - it's the doctrine of the Trinity which has been central to the christian faith since um....38 A.D.? I'm not sure what imaginary argument you think is taking place within christian theology about who God is. There is very little debate whatsoever, even between Catholics and Protestants over who/what God is and isn't and it's been hammered and spelled out continually for close to 2000 years now.

It occurred to me the other day that what Christians benefit from is a community in a society where people are increasingly isolated. This is, in essence, not much different from belonging to a club of like-minded people. Also, I reckon all the singing, hands in the air stuff provides a bit of a release of expression where it wouldn't normally be appropriate. This isn't much different from going crazy at a rock concert.
And here, you've hit the nail on the head. These types of emotional experiences take place in every religion, and every non-religion. Combine music, strong emotion, a group sense of belonging, and BINGO. It does something to us. When you combine all that with a very compelling philosophy of love, order in the universe, and eternal life, it's like heroin.

Then why do I get dirty looks when I shout 'fuck yeah!', and throw up the horns at my wife's church?

Bumper stickers. They say it all. And christains always have em and they always call god and jesus something different. But it's always something good. I've never seen one that said 'God is mortgage'. Well, is he that too?

Oh God, by the power of the Holy Spirit get this man out of the thread.

Yes and no.
There's a danger of people being carried along with the crowd, but equally there is no reason why christians shouldn't genuinely get excited about God at church.
