Definitely worth working on. :thumb: But I fear Ziemanskye will be the first one to slap you in the face for all the lamps and candles. :D Can you say how big it is, since one of our present issues is how large the maps can be...?
CrackedGear on 20/1/2008 at 18:42
I'll take it, but as Ziemanskye said, it is possible that it will end up horribly mutated from what you originally envisioned.

the map is split in 2, map 1 is done and map 2 is close to completion. the transitions between the maps are in place and work.
i do have zone portals everywhere, but it still takes a good computer to run it well, as you can see i did not think small, so i was just going to plead to everyone that played it to be sure they have the computer for it.
i just figured i would rather have something like we had in thief 1 and 2 than worry about the size.
i did play it on a p4 3ghz with a geforce 6800 gt and a gig of ram and it played ok on medium detail settings at 800 x 600.
looks like you cracked gear are the first to want it so now we need to find out how to transfer it over the internet, and also what i should pack in the rar file.

give Judith a couple of months and he might have some time though :p
Nah, you know what I'll do in the first place - replace all those stock textures with hi-res ones, which would delay any other work for a month or two :P

You know, from those screenshots I'm surprised your level hasn't splintered into a billion BSP holes. Some interesting brush-work going on there, but I can tell I'll not be able to run it, so there's not much point me offering to have a go (and technically I'm busy anyway...) since I'd have to rebuild and rescale it just to begin to be able to play it.
In terms of the other guys (who may well correct me):
str8g8 has real life things to deal with, nappies and all.
Rantako I don't remember seeing much of since he got that job doing these things and getting paid for it
STiFU is out of mapping (for TDS at least) because of real life and BSP holes
and Bardic... I have no idea. I think he might have a map of his own he's plugging away on though.

Looks like I should avoid finding a real life. Or a job. :weird:
I think by replacing the brush stairs with smeshy ones and other things there could be some space gained...maybe even no loading zones...? I just have this dream, you know... By the way, after reading all your and Komag's performance lessons about simple brushes and stuff, I'm always surprised how "much" they used them in the game, i.e. for pavements.

Ziemanskye:
I think you saw some static meshes that may have looked like brushes. i haven't counted or even opened the map for a while, but i have at least 30 custom 3dsmax static meshes. such as the piano and the stoves in the kitchen as well as almost all posts and beams. i actually tried to do most of it with brushes until the frame rates went down, and then replaced most unnecessary brushes with custom static meshes.
judith:
i really wish you could have done the textures, as i know it would look cool. thing is that there would be so much texture work for you to do, as it may be even bigger than you think from the screen shots.
one thing i would like to say is that believe it or not i have really enjoyed playing it, even unfinished, theres so much trouble for garret to get in. including an alarm system with flashing red light and alarm sound! i love to see the gaurds jump when the alarm goes of - even though its all scripted.
Beleg Cúthalion:
i think i got lazy with the stairs, so they are in fact brushes (all but one set in the courtyard), but i do think it would help the frame rates to be static meshes, but thats up to the new owners.

Just so you know, if you are interested, the fm has been officially taken over by cracked gear. I sent him the files Saturday.
again thanks for the interest.

He will place trees and grass everywhere, you'll see...:p
CrackedGear on 10/2/2008 at 08:24
I'll have you know that a great many mansions had trees growing in them. Especially in the bathrooms, bedrooms, and libraries. though in later periods the trees in the main hall were typically replaced with fields of flowers.
I am merely following historical precedent in my FMs.
