I see who you mean skacky. Got him with a gas arrow!
Also saw the thing in the crypt once.
He appeared just as I loaded, then vanished. He was the standard male ghost. Suspect it is just a quirk of the game engine.

Extremely nice mission.
Edit: Done. Very satisfying to spot those last few bits of loot. :D <strike>185 short</strike> <strike>85 short</strike> <strike>Now 10 short. :grr: Coins? But where?</strike> ... Seek, and ye shall find, or in my case, seeketh for a very long time. :D With no discipline to my search, trying to get into the mind of the author, feeling I know the style, nothing sneaky, pretty sure the last 10 loot would be coins, where might they casually be placed? BAM! Got them.
I tried to tackle the thing in the crypt and felt it was stationed near the archway to the left of the bent iron bars. Ambient sound made me think it had a patrol route. Now, I'm not sure. 2 strings of garlic and putting out all the torches failed miserably but a gas arrow caused the thing to make agitated throaty beast noises and was provoked further by a flash bomb. Even though I was across the room from that archway I got hit and felt the thing was in search mode. It's a clever creation. Some posts report fleetingly seeing apparitions in other places but I didn't. I wondered if the thing was asleep and only woke if I bumped into it. No need for it to be visible when your imagination can make it much worse. I found 150 loot in crypt.
The game has great architecture, and it was good being spotted by guards and hiding, just to hear the wide selection of exclamations. There's also a funny letter about gossiping. On rooftops Garrett achieved feats I didn't think possible and the game was generous when I fell. :D
Written in 72 hours the author's inherent discipline is evident and I appreciated the cunning placement of loot and being lured pointlessly to a difficult-to-reach place with no reward, often to realise it had it's purpose.
Thank you very much Anonymous (as in Briefing Notes) and to all those people in the credits. I see skacky posted in this thread as though a player but elsewhere others suggest he is the author. For me, lacking the perspective of seasoned FM players, it did remind me of Endless Rain and it's brilliant. :D

Happy to see a bump for this mission. @Aged Raver, if you haven't played The Unseen, I'd recommend it, it's another short horror mission by the same author. (Also, as a fellow raver from Sussex, I feel I have to give some kind of customary greeting...)
One of my favourite things about this mission is the pacing. That backstabbing that leaves you trapped with something terrible, unknown thing. The sense of dread rushes on very quickly and it's wonderful. Visuals and sound design are on point as always, but it's that twist that really stuck with me.
I think I need to give this one a replay since I've clearly missed a few things reading back through these posts. I did play it about a year or so ago, back when I was totally hooked on horror FMs.

Hi. Thanks for the post and yes, greetings from Sussex. :D I’m not big on horror missions but I’ll get round to The Unseen eventually.
(Actually, reading your post and everyone elses, in The Greyquarter Heist thread I want to play that too!). I’m playing Pickpocket (Normal) level in Vanishing Point and don’t know if the
disturbing nature of the crypt increases with difficulty levels but I do know all my theories about the thing have been wrong, other than where you sometimes get attacked. Early on, after reading the note, that’s just inside the crypt, and getting locked in, I re-loaded a Save in order to search for more loot outside. On second entry to the crypt, thinking I knew what was ahead, I didn’t read the note and when I escaped up to the well I couldn’t complete the mission because the Objectives only change if you read the note, not because the door locks. DOH! Rookie mistake.
I’m thinking there may not be a lootlist as there’s no map, so specifying locations would be a bit more challenging but earlier in the thread it looks like someone found all the loot so I’ll persevere a bit longer for that <strike>last 85</strike> <strike>last 10.</strike>
(https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146085&page=2&p=2463296&viewfull=1#post2463296) DONE! :D
Update: I re-played on Shadow (Expert) difficulty and
the atmosphere in the crypt isn't any worse, for which I'm grateful. Throughout the game even with everyone unconscious I got a regular subtitle saying “What? Thou lives still? Thou wilt not escape this time!.” Perhaps it’s related to the occasional apparitions that were reported in this thread, which I never witnessed. Although in other games I do sometimes get out-of-context subtitles so possibly my installation needs adjustment.

What a great mission! I really liked both the textures and architecture which were at higher level than typical Thief levels. Oh, and one more thing - I loved the barking dog.

Just played this mission, the atmosphere is absolutely amazing !
Would have loved to get a bigger version of it, very impressive work, especially considering it was built in 3 days... Congrats !
