But echoes of it exist still in so many ways, and they are defended by people like you, which (unfortunately) suggests that you, and those like you, don't really get what so was wrong about it all in the first place. And although every country does indeed have this aspect the US certainly has had amongst the most persistent, blatant, and above all modern, racism.

I'm not defending it SE, not by a longshot. Just tired of SD's penchant for US-bashing is all.
There are a growing number of regular US citizens who are actively taking part in helping to fight racism here in the States. We're just not as news-worthy as the racist groups, unfortunately.
Not an easy road to walk by any means, especially when one lives in Redneck, USA.

I was just pointing out what a sham the whole 4th July thing is. Celebrating freeing yourself is great! Celebrating freeing yourself, and then proceeding to treat other humans as chattel for another 100 years isn't.
