(Sound familiar to you Brits? I mean, it's not the only poem/song we ripped off from you guys so, I figure, why stop?).
My local jingoistic patriot nearly had an aneurysm when I informed him that our national anthem is a war poem set to the tune of a British drinking song.

Living out in the rural Midwest it doesn't matter which types of fireworks have been banned this year 'cuz the Good Ole Boys have been throwin' around 1/4 sticks of dynamite (into their own corn fields, no less - go figure :weird: ) and shooting off every gun they own. This has been going on for the past couple days already. At 6 am that'll get ya outta bed in a hurry, let me tell you. Wish I had someplace to go tonight that didn't sound like I was in the middle of a war zone. I've already had to peel three of my cats off the ceiling as it is and it's not even dark out yet.
Oh what the hell; Happy 4th everybody.
*starts rummaging around in cabinets & drawers looking for earplugs*

It could be worse. I used to live in Georgia(country) and on New Year's at midnight, the Georgians would go outside and start shooting off their rifles in the street. In a crowded city.
