Legalise, tax it and cure the worlds debt ;)

It's about time the Netherlands had a few friends - one of the few sane approaches to drugs in the world and they still a load of international pressure to tighten it all up.
Maybe if some of those conservatives lit up a spliff they'd be less uptight about it...

Alcohol is the most devastating drug there is, as far as I'm concerned. As long as that is legal, you might as well legalize everything else.

A few years ago (okay, more than just a few) I would have agreed with the "Legalise it!" crowd, but I've seen way too many young men in my generation with severe psychological problems that could clearly be traced to a naive usage of the extremely potent (gene engineered) weed that is being sold here which they were smoking day by day. I mean way more than alcoholics and with more severe consequences.
I also know a few people who get along perfectly fine with it, despite high consume. But from what I have seen there is a clear tendency to trigger psychological problems.

You got a peer-reviewed paper on that?

And as well as being peer reviewed does it include cross cultural studies?

Yeah, it can be bad, but to say it is worse than shooting boy and/or girl, or smoking crack? Have you ever done it or been closely tied to huge numbers of people who have? Rehab maybe? Been in the hospital being pulled from death? Thought not.
Liver damage is far more common in I.V. drug users (usually Hep. C), and every time you take a huge blast of the white shit, it is as devastating as a mini heart attack.
That said, I'd vote for Legalizing it, but I only fuck with the stuff every blue moon. I go years and years without it.

witherflower probably meant it is more devastating to others. Who cares if and how much something is devastating to yourself? Certainly the government shouldn't, especially while considering whether said something should be legal or not...

It's not for me, but I'm pretty libertarian on stuff like this so don't have any reason to oppose it if it brings some people some kind of happiness and isn't a real public danger.
I'm also still on this idea that a lot of big problems are cultural (parents not raising their kids to be responsible or people not thinking they're expected to make rational arguments), and I fit "vice" kind of stuff in there too ... pot, alcohol, smoking, guns (to an lesser extent). The first line of defense is raising people to be sensible and smart about it and not going ape-shit overboard just because they can. I liked in Europe people could just have a little wine for dinner and it's no big deal, whereas in America there's simultaneously either this paranoid abhorrence of teenage drinking or an expectation to go binge-drinking every weekend... FFS, just have a beer or two, enjoy life, and no need for such extremes. And I guess that thinking informs what I think about mj, although it wasn't around my world much so I never had much of an opinion about it.
