Alright, so marihuana, guns, online video games, porn and model train sets apparently all have the same influence on the human mind now. And if anything causes you any harm, it's your own fault for being so dumb. AND THAT'S WHAT FREEDOM IS ALL ABOUT.
fett on 31/3/2010 at 00:01
The irony is that, uh, it IS what freedom is all about.
Edit: You don't happen to be from Germany do you?

You were funnier when you thought you were dying, fett.

Shit just got raw.

Oh I know what this calls for, when the fighting starts, go smoke some weed and chill out. Could say that about the prisoners, let them smoke all they want. Let them chill out, they won't complain about the food, they'll all get the munchies, get fat, won't do shit. Tax payers will bitch because the food budget suddenly sky rockets in the prisons . No one wins. :(

That's not very good manners. You really ought to work on your social skills.

You don't have to be a total Personal Responsibility Neo-Con to believe in this stuff. Even the most ardent socialist can surely think of way to deal with whatever harms arise without outlawing the whole practice.

Personal Responsibility Neo-Con
So believing in taking responsibility for your own actions makes you a neocon? What?
Rug Burn Junky on 31/3/2010 at 04:07
Actually, if you really want to be technical, use of the term "neo"con is entirely inappropriate and shouldn't be taken offense to by most on the right - since most rightwingers don't in fact fit into the rather narrow confines of the neocon movement, or even know what it means, in light of the ridiculous mish-mash of half-baked philosophies which now make up the republican/conservative "movement."
The Neoconservative movement was a backlash by liberals against what was seen as liberalism going to far in the late 60's. They are somewhat comfortable with a welfare state but saw the Great Society of LBJ as going too far, and were specifically put off by the anti-war stance of the Democratic party in light of the McGovern Campaign. As famously stated by neocon standard bearer Irving Kristol: "A Neoconservative is a liberal who has been mugged by reality."
But the key is, a true "Neocon" is much, much further to the left on these particular social issues, and would likely be seen as socialist by the more extreme paleo conservatives of a Goldwater bent. So the hyperbole for which Muzman is looking would probably be better served if he used another term besides Neocon.
Just FYI.
Though I believe, dethtoll, that what he's saying is exactly the opposite - taking responsibility for ones actions as a philosophy is not limited to only extreme right wing philosophies. So there's really no need for you to take umbrage.

Well, I mean right wing libertarian type, since RBJ points out the corruption of the term.
Kolya seems to be railing at a certain kind of implied extreme liberalism going on. I thought I'd correct him. If I get what he saying, that is.
"Personal Responsibility", caps 'n all, is a weird bugbear of the right in America (and a big part of the, dare I say it, American Psyche it seems to me some times). I've never met anyone who thought people weren't personally responsible on some level, but it's generally more flexible in its consideration. The American conservative version is terribly worried about everyone else's morality should people be helped or 'immoral' things be permitted etc You know the sort of thing.
So it's my vague characterisation of a certain section of the community, one which Kolya seems worried we're throwing our lot in with. And then I'm saying it ain't necessarily so.
And now I'm going to lie down.
