Hi all,
I'm sorry if the answer to this question is somewhere else in here ... I have looked and could not find a related answer:
I am thhinking a buying / building a new computer and I'm wondering how / if SS2 playes on a 64bit systm?
I was also wonding if I would be able disable 3 of the 4 cores on a quad core like I disable 1 of the 2 cores on my current system to play the game on the required single core?
Thanks,
Cog

I believe that several people have been able to run SS2 in 64 bit Windows 7 without many issues.
As for the cores questions, no problem. I myself have a quad core CPU and never had any problems running SS2. I simply used the permanent fix listed (
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/) here.

As D'Arcy says, it works. You may have to do a little tweaking, but it is possible. The best place to start, once you get your computer (and
before you install SS2), is with the (

I failed to ask specifically about the compatablity of SS2 with windows 7 64 bit OS.
I was Very successful thanks to this site getting SS2 to run flawlessly on my current core 2 duo Vista OS laptop ... just wondering about future systems

Well, Windows 7 is nothing but a more refined version of Windows Vista.
Oh, and back to the topic, I recently installed Win7x64. SS2 and other Dark Engine games work as usual. Basically, every tweak that should be applied to Vista, you apply to 7.

You've already been told it runs fine under Windows 7. So you're asking if it will run under any future OSs that haven't even been released yet? :weird:

Again, it runs fine under Windows 7 x64. Plus, any FMs or mods which use my custom scripts seem to have issues with the 32-bit version of Windows 7, despite having no issues in the 64-bit version. I'd recommend x64.
And don't disable your cores, that's foolish. You can simply set the game itself to only use a single core. The SS2Tool will apply this patch for you, as will DDFix IIRC. Otherwise, you can do it manually using ImageCfg.

So even if you weren't asking about future operating systems, you were asking about
something in the future, weren't you? We obviously can't speak for SS2's compatibility with anything that hasn't been released yet.
