I also think that the loot is too hard to find.
It's also strategically absent from places where you'd expect loot to be, and very sparsely distributed, I imagine by design.
Once I'm finished, I'll do a Dromed run through to see what secret areas I can find

Most of the loot is actually found in plain sight, but most of the missions are both huge and rather dark so completely understandable that on first play through you miss a ton of loot. Yes there are some hidden locations but not that many, maybe 2-3 per mission and even they don’t hide piles of loot, just 1 or 2 medium valued items.
I’ve already made lootlists and walkthroughs but won’t be releasing them until a decent amount of time has passed, certainly not till next year at least.

I didn't even try to max out my first play through. Once I realized the difficulty for the main objectives was more in line with the original games I decided to play them more or less as I thought Hume would - picking up stuff that made sense, but not trying to act as some sort of human gold vacuum.
I love the atmosphere they've created - I know I'll be revisiting these levels several times, so I just focused on getting familiar with the layouts, internalizing that and enjoying the run.

I thought what was nice about the loot was that it wasn't that hard to get enough loot to finish, even on expert. But if you wanted to find 100% of it, then it is pretty challenging. I personally like that balance; you can finish on expert without it being too frustrating, but at the same time it makes replaying more challenging and rewarding.

Code:
FATAL: trying to set non-power-of-two sized texture in lgd3d (512x352)
this error in the log shows the problem. this is not your fault; this is not due to any mods you have installed; this is because a number of the textures in TBP are ill-sized. the dark engine (whether running under directx 6, or directx 9 with newdark) requires all textures on terrain and objects to be power of two sized in each dimension. for many players, their graphics driver does not strictly follow the directx spec and loads ill-sized textures anyway (as all modern hardware is capable of handling them), and so this issue often goes unnoticed even for fm authors and beta testers.
you
might be able to resolve this by updating your graphics drivers, if it so happens that a newer driver is less strict about following the spec; but that is not particularly likely.
this really needs to be fixed by the TBP team, adjusting the problematic assets to the best power of two size. i did a quick scan to find how many texture files have this issue, and will pass that on to the team.
Hi vfig,
thanks a lot for your reply and for trying to help! This is a bit discouraging right now, since I was really looking forward to playing TBP after so many years of waiting. Don't know if I should try to update my graphics drivers ("never change a running system ..."), but will probably do so. Have to find the right driver files first though ... otherwise I'll try the semicolon-thing with the files in my Thief folder, but according to your analysis that won't help since the problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with TFix-installed mods (haven't installed any myself, but someone suggested that TFix does this on its own). What I don't really understand is that this problem hasn't occured in fan missions up to the mentioned "Whispers Below the Cobblestone" a couple of years back. Beforehand the game ran perfectly. Maybe I'm not getting the full range because I'm no native English speaking person ^^. But thanks again anyway for your help and suggestions!

Yes, this!

I highly doubt that anyone found all the loot in every mission. That's not challenging, it simply is impossible, which makes it a bit pointless.
See, I don't ask for easy living, but, I think FMs (not just these ones, but, literally all of them) simply exaggerate a bit in that regard. The loot in the original games wasn't THAT hard to find.

While vfig knows his stuff so I trust his analysis, you should
really try disabling all mods and seeing if that fixes things for you. It's a fast, easy thing to test and doing so allows you to play the missions
exactly the way the authors have
requested we play them.
The author of Whispers also requested people play his mission with all mods disabled, and posts in the thread for that mission suggest disabling mods could have fixed your problem (see the post in that thread by Nameless Voice).
Again, it's a quick thing to test and it won't hurt, so why not give it a shot?
@chk772: It sounds like you got frustrated, and I don't feel like arguing about it, but as far as it being impossible: did you see fortuni's post a few posts before yours? :thumb:

Looks absolutely amazing, can't wait to play this one!
Edit: Wow, absolutely amazing. Out of all the great elements, the level design was my favorite thing. Interconnectivity and unique areas helped a lot there. Definitely my favorite campaign I've played so far.
