Just a question from a pre-newbie who just bought TES3. I've ALMOST got a minimal system except for only half the required RAM. Do you REALLY need 256MB to run it?:(

Erm, I think that it runs on 128mb, just with very slow. If you can get out of the character-generation bit without the game crashing to desktop, you should be fine, if you're patient :)

I play with 265 megs, and even with a little tweaking of the ini-file, I can feel that it would benefit from having double the memory I have...

When I first got MW, I played on:
- PIII 800mhz
- 128mb RAM
- 32mb GeForce 256
At 1024 x 768 with no shadows and low draw distance, it ran acceptably indoors and in smaller villages and less expansive areas, but in somewhere like Balmora, or standing on top of a mountain, I literally couldn't lift my eyes from the ground (didn't even try third-person) because looking at anything would kill my framerate. Also, the game would begin to stutter badly after 30 minutes and froze permanently after 40. And it took a while to load.
Just a performance comparison for you. Fortunately, I now play on a better system.
... So yes, I'd say you'd want 256mb RAM, at least. Unfortunately I couldn't add more RAM on my system. :(

Thanx for all the replies, guys. My sys is P3 1G with, as I say, 128MB Ram (don't know how much the NVidia's got), so I'll give it a whirl.:thumb:

Remember to tweak your ini-file. By default it says:
Interior Cell Buffer=16
Exterior Cell Buffer=32
...but even with 256, I had to drop these or I would get those "slowing down then freezing" problems. Lower these values to something like 12 and 22, or lower if you still have problems with the game slowing down...
