Of course it was better in the past, just like how nowadays they just don't make cars, computers, sandwiches, pizza, furniture, or whatever else we are bitching about like they used to.
I don't think its really that different. Of course posting has gone down, but the only real change is that Commchat has degenerated into the equivalent of a mosh pit: fulling of raging and mindlessly hostile yuppies, junkies, hipsters, and self-styled (internet) tough guys. The other forums are still a pretty good place to get and share information about their respective topics, and despite the low volume of posts the remaining posters are generally pretty helpful and quick to answer questions.
