Making a Thief FM is filled with technicalities. When you write you create matter out of thin air and shape it like a god into whatever your mind can conceive of. And that's the only limit. Not maximum onscreen objects.
This also depends on what writings we talk about here, I like short stories, poetry, things that work as a rush. I never read crime stories and have absolutely no fun when I try.
Well, you still need to have a pretty broad vocabulary and the ability to fully put your mind into words.

What about books with an intelligent and satisfying narrative arc, or properly thought through and fully realised characters? I see so many elements of a truly well written novel as things that could only come from many many hours of hard work.
Kolya on 6/1/2009 at 18:17
Yeah, I'm not much into plot-heavy works, although I can see a lot of people like them. Good characters come from observing your fellow people and having some insight into human relationships, rather than hard work, in my opinion.
And before you further try to nail me on the not-work point: I know writing is work, but it's fun when done freely. So I don't call it "work" as opposed to things I have to do. If I have to write a paper, then it's work.

Why are we letting Kolya derail this thread with the fact that he obviously doesn't know the first thing about writing?
Writing is work, but of a rewarding sort. There.
Back on topic: my resolution for 2009?
Write more.

I make a habit of not making 'negative' resolutions, I try to make 'positive' resolutions. For example:instead of quitting bad habits, work on supporting and/or reinforcing your positive traits/habits.
That said, I haven't really committed to my resolution this year, as of yet.

Because the original topic turned out to be less interesting for a while.
Besides, you call writing "rewarding work", I call it "fun". That's splitting hairs over nothing. My main point was that it shouldn't be seen as a chore, something you need to make resolutions about to get into it. But instead see the beauty of it, so you actually *want* to write. Now that I phrased that in an agreeable way for everyone...
I like the idea of positive resolutions, a lot.

My resolution was to start a healthy, low-fat diet and sound exercise plan on January first, and I've stuck to it so far and lost four pounds already! I figure I'm good for maybe two or three more days.
After reading this thread my new resolutions are to use the word shoehorning more and to not get annoyed by Kolya, no matter how infuriating he may be. :D

Why not 2 birds with 1 stone? All we have to do is Shoehorn Kolya into another forum. He'll be less infuriating to us here. :sly:

Most of you dicks aren't secure enough in your dickhood to wear your dicks right up front on your face like Kolya does. It's a German thing, you white people wouldn't understand.
