It might be I'm missing something here but it sounded like you wanted to contradict SD first, then you name more reasons why the inquisition was a bad comparison.
A little of both. The Inquisition and suicide bombings work toward a similar goal, but come from different motivations. Like most historical comparisons, it's a bit of an apples and oranges thing IMO.

I could probably scrap together a hundred or so "christians" and ask them I suppose. It would be interesting. Maybe some christian blog/forum would work.
I expect it wouldn't give you a very accurate result, because you'd most likely be using a sample with a fair bit of bias. Christians who visit any given website are likely to share certain characteristics related to the nature of the site and its content. Indeed, a sample from "christians who frequently use the internet" (with no bias with respect to that population) probably has significant bias with respect to the general christian population.

Well, more than being interesting, it might provide some sort of perspective to the original article. Otherwise it looks like you're just indulging in some trendy Muslim-bashing, and I'm sure you wouldn't want that!
Hey. Im nothing if not indulgently trendy.

In older news, the last time a poll on whether or not bombing civilian targets can be justified in a war was conducted in America, I do believe that a somewhat similar number of Americans proclaimed that attacking civilian targets can be justified.
Of course, that statistic is a bit difficult to find, considering how everyone and their brother is talking about the evil hurr durr terrist muslims.

Actually its referred to as a random sample, which usefulness should not even be lost on haters.
But yes, back in the day we would bomb the hell outta anything wholesale style (Dresden) ; killing tons (litterally) more civillians in one night than any terrorist group could even dream of in a year.

"Back in the day"? Looks like someone hasn't been keeping up with current events!

36% of U.S. citizens approve of the use of torture in some cases according to (
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2006/10_october/19/poll.shtml) this poll, 7% higher than the global average.
I think part of it is that people are reluctant to take a moral stance on things where they feel it might limit their options in some way. Most people can probably come up with worst case scenarios where they might see monstrous behaviour as justifiable, but that doesn't mean they necessarily approve of it in general or would commit it themselves.

Unless some however questionable authority tells them it's alright. Then they happily oblige.
