Far be it from me to pour water on burning strawmen, but are suicide bombings "to defend Islam" really equitable with the Inquisition? Suicide bombings are isolated acts of violence by extremists, whereas the Inquisition was a more organised programme of institutionalised zealotry.
Wouldn't suicide bombings and (say) abortion clinic bombings be a better comparative measure? Might I dare to venture that a random survey of Christians in the US would give you around 20% in favour of the latter too?

I think possibly the political implications are similar, except that Christianity was imposing the Inquisition from a position of unchallenged strength in the world, while Islam, though a huge movement right now in history, is coming from a position of political weakness and instability. In other words, the Inquisition was to maintain control, but suicide bombings are an attempt to gain control.

It might be I'm missing something here but it sounded like you wanted to contradict SD first, then you name more reasons why the inquisition was a bad comparison.

I could probably scrap together a hundred or so "christians" and ask them I suppose. It would be interesting. Maybe some christian blog/forum would work. Though I totally understand where your coming from I dont think that youd ever get anywhere close to 20%. Even if you eliminate homicidal aspect and say that you just want to trash the building. BUt then the comparison would be worthless in that suicidal bomings are not ment to destroy infrastructure, but to kill infidels. I just dont see it. PLus, you look like your trying too hard by trying to make the case. Still, it would be interesting to ask.

Well, more than being interesting, it might provide some sort of perspective to the original article. Otherwise it looks like you're just indulging in some trendy Muslim-bashing, and I'm sure you wouldn't want that!
