As long as you've got a maintenance skill and fix your weapons before they break, you don't really need the repair skill all that much. Occasionally you will come across a new weapon which will usually be broken though, but if you don't plan on using it there's no real need for you to invest the modules to buy it.
As for the modify skill.. It's not completely useless but you should be able to complete the game without it. It'll make your weapons stronger and more accurate which is a pretty good advantage, I guess.

The modify skill can also be used to significantly increase the battery size of energy weapons.

I look at it this way; just go with what costs most cyber modules. Out of those choices, +2 Std obviously costs the most so go with that one. Otherwise you'd have to use precious cyber modules once you end up on the VB. ;)

ok I dont think I'll invest in any of those..

alrighty then. tho cyber affinity is also +2. I thought +1 maintenance might cost more cyber modules to make it the equivilent of +2 str or +2 CA. I mean why not just make it +2 maintenance as well?

I don't know, maybe it was just a gameplay decision.

Yeah, but energy weapons are pretty useless. Only used the laser pistol once in the game to shoot 2 protocol droids (outside of the tutorial ;)) but threw it away after that.
Also remember to keep upgrading your hacking and CA skill - The further you get into the game, the more difficult these hacks will get, and being able to hack is going to be a big help.

dumb question but one thing im not certain about..is it impossible to fail hacking? if there is no way you can successfully hack without attempting to hack an "ice" node, then woudlnt u just RESET and try again? no-ones gonna risk hacking on an ice node are they.
Bjossi on 26/3/2007 at 20:12
You will want to click on an ICE node if all others are "taken". Failing has bad consequences depending on what you are hacking. Security crates blow up, security stations & keypads will break so you'll need to repair them before making another hacking attempt.
(the security alarm will go off as well, if you fail hacking)
But if you don't want to take the risk, you can reset, but remember that resetting costs nanites.

I remember once having a rather humorous situation where I tried to hack something (a keypad I think), failed, broke it, repaired it, tried to hack again, broke it, repaired it, tried to hack again...
I can't remember if it was my third or foruth attempt that I finally managed to get the thing open. :D
