1. how important is the research skill and is it worth putting any points in it? im just gonna put all points in hacking, standard weps and strength so i can use the assault rifle and get good armour.
2. Do the bonuses u get at the start from training change each time?

1. Buy skill 1, but don't go further than that if you aren't planning to use exotic weapons or worm-implants
2. Are you talking about the upgrades like hacking, standard, etc.? They vary based on what career path you choose but that's it.

Indeed, those 25% damage bonuses from research can't be ignored.

You can have them without taking the skill, however.

Yes, but that's an oversight of whoever programmed the ExperTech implant.

Isn't it the LabAssistant implant that gives you a free research skill? :erm:

I don't think it's an oversight - I think it was put in to stop the game from becoming unwinnable if you didn't get Research 1 by Hydro.

Polito gives you 10 cyber modules at that part of the game, though it is only enough on Easy.

Just because she gives you the modules doesn't mean you have to spend them wisely. :D
Same with the mandatory hack on command, but there you can use an ICE pick.

But remember that we are talking about System Shock 2, it is quite easy for a newcomer to the game to fuck up his runthrough. ;)
It isn't possible to babysit new players, I think the 10 cyber modules are just part of the storyline; Shodan wants you to get to deck 4 so she makes it more likely this way.
