i am trying to get thief gold to work, but i am coming up against 2 problems:-
1. i can play fine for 1-2 minutes then the game freezes, can describe this problem any better(when i go to desktop via task manager there is no error message, sorry).
2.ever since i got this new base PC(monitor, speakers, joystick is still old),the display in games is too dark, this happens in all games,ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO.i know i can adjust the gamma in the CAM. file in thief gold directory, but is there a better fix?.

Does your computer have dual core? The Thief games don't like them, so the first thing you should try is setting affinity to only one core via the task manager.

You'll find the exact instructions in the FAQ Brethren linked to, but the bottom line is, you don't need to uninstall anything - you simply tell the game to use only one core. This won't affect your system or any other programs in any way, although the downside is that you may need to do this every time you start Thief.

ImageCfg doesn't have to go into the System32 folder. If you ask me, it's easier to just put ImageCfg and the batch file that you create into the Thief folder instead.
I think the instructions say to put the
processor.bat file in quotes when saving, because it tells Notepad to save the file with that exact name. Otherwise it would end up with the name
processor.bat.txt. An alternative way to save the file properly, without using quotes, is to use the drop-down in the save file dilaog box and change the file type to
*.*. That way, Notepad won't tack on the
.txt and prevent you from using the batch file properly.
But DDFix makes ImageCfg unnecessary, anyway. It automatically takes care of the dual core fix. And the (
http://timeslip.chorrol.com/current/ddfixG.7z) latest version of DDFix is supposed to be easier than ever to use. (It checks to make sure that the resolution in cam.cfg matches what resolution you pick, now.)
Unfortunately, for me, the GUI version of DDFix crashes on Vista x64. So I had to use the (
http://timeslip.chorrol.com/current/ddfixM.7z) manual method to install.
