Im at the part now where I have just escaped from the Ambrosia lab place in Hong Kong. Getting out was a bit tough, as the secretary wipped out a gun. I had to go a bit Waylander with my minicrossbow and tranquilize her and all the security gaurds. It was funny, in Maggy Chow's place before when I went to hack into the security terminal, and the maid opened fire! I gave her a taste of the probe.
Heh. You played a lot. Next, you're off to New York, and then Paris! After revisiting VL, of course...
1. Have you patched the game?
2. There are other ways of getting to the rooftops, try one of them and maybe you'll manage to avoid the problem.
1. I've got the GOTY Edition, and as far as I can tell, it's got the most recent patch. I don't have it in front of me, but v.1112f comes to mind. I've found Eidos' FAQ which addresses this problem: an "assert" error followed by a lot of debug code which occurs when changing levels. It's either video drivers or a corrupted map (NYC_Warehouse). They suggest temporarily lowering display settings, that it sometimes works on low-end videocards. It didn't help, and my videocard (AIW Radeon) isn't low-end, at least not for the time Deus Ex was released. They also suggest reloading the map from the CD in case it's corrupted. That hasn't made a difference, but installing the game took several tries and could only be done by copying the install files to the hard drive: it's not out of the question that the CD's damaged . Mostly, they recommend updating video drivers, but my drivers are already much more current than the game, so I'm not holding out great hope. But I'll look for another way up to the rooftops.

And btw, the knife isn't actually silent. Well, the knife is, but when someone dies, they let out a horrible scream and that's not silent.
Yeah, just like the crossbow poison darts, which give the enemies time to scream, run around and raise hell before they drop. So much for stealth.

For the record, it is possible to take enemies down quietly with tranq darts. However, it requires a precisely-aimed head shot at not-so-high range, along with some luck; having the appropriate weapons skills at Advanced or Master helps a lot as well.

That sounds like a good skill to develop...anyway, the driver update fixed my level-loading problem, so chalk one up to following the directions. Excellent!

Did I make a mistake upgrading my low tech weapons to master? Now that I have the nano-sword(light saber) :laff:
it seems that it is so powerful, it would be powerful enough at the untrained level. I stick by my choices .
Yeah, I did play a lot, but I got addicted a couple of nights ago. And what better things do I have to do? Sleep? pah! :thumb:

Depends on the approach you've chosen. If you're about to stick with the sword, you could have done without it; if however you're still about to use the baton or the prod, it is useful: normal effects of high skills notwithstanding,
you need to be a low-tech master to be able to knock Commandos and WiB/MiB out (technically it's possible to handle the latter on Advanced, but it's hard; for the former it's Master or nothing).
Naw it's better to use the skills for other things such as medical treatment or computer hacking. Upgrade the melee skill a little bit. That's all you need since the Dragon Tooth sword pretty much does whatever you can't. :cheeky:
Well this is my way, and it certainly works.
