I don't know if its available to new customers or just existing ones. It doesn't say specifically. But it might help TTLG stay alive for a lot longer. without the need for anymore huge funding drives.

At 1&1, we make every effort to offer our customers the most advanced technology and services available in the industry. For this reason, we have decided to include unlimited traffic with all of our webhosting packages and online shops.
Now, you don't have to worry if you exceed the monthly transfer volume limits in your package!
Unlimited traffic will allow you to offer downloads to your visitors, add flash animation or other types of high resolution graphics to your site.
In the past if you had more traffic than your package included, you had to pay an additional $0.49/GB. Unlimited traffic means you can rest easy, instead of paying additional fees for a successful website.
Your advantages:
* More visitors to your site will not mean more money out of your pocket.
* Transfer large files via FTP and don't worry about added fees.
* Offer file downloads without concern for a huge bill at the end of the month.
Sincerely,
Your 1&1 Internet Team

I've had "unlimited" traffic and disk space for two years. They're just catching up with the competition.
"Unlimited" is not the same as "uncapped" or "infinite". It's really more of a soft-limit, if their plan is similar to the usual "unlimited" plans of bluehost and the others. They let you use as much as you need then evaluate afterwards if they think you're using "too much" based on their own idea of what that is. If you go over what they're willing to give you, they'll tell you to either upgrade your plan or get a hard limit. (Or will just cancel outright.)

Bear in mind that TTLG runs on a dedicated leased server, not as part of a web hosting farm.

I don't really know much about these things. For my purposes its pretty great, just thought I'd pass the info along.

I've been using a dedicated 1&1 server for four years with their unlimited bandwidth package. They're not catching up with the competition - they've been doing it for quite some time. The main issue with their hosting was their customer support (at least at one time) but it's not really something that I've had to use.
Of course, this is just my experience and others may well have had problems with them. However, as a host for a dedicated server where you're happy to get involved with the nuts and bolts I can't complain.
