Yeah, that was my point. When you look at things that way, everyone wins: the masses buying the game get what they want and the devs/producers get their money. Everyone wins, except that nothing new is brought to the genre, no one has taken a risk and we 'elites' don't get to lose ourselves in an awesome new experience. At best, we get more of the same with a layer of next-gen. No new Thief, no new Deus Ex.
I'm beating a dead horse while stating the obvious maybe. And we all know the reasons, and we all know how it's evolving, etc. Maybe I am just writing in the hope that someone will come up with a strong refutation that today, innovation in a medium-budget project can't be anything more than an increment.
