It's probably not overly significant, just another sign that magic is returning to the world.
SPOILER FOR A BOOK YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY READ IF YOU'RE IN HERE
Like when Tyrion is talking to the pyromancers in ACoK and they're all like "um suddenly our spells started working really well it's the funniest thing" Presumably it's because dragons are back.
Anyways american releases suck. I finished the book weeks ago but now it's like most things have been said.
However GO AWAY THERE WILL BE SPOILERS
I'm totally bummed that Beric Dondarrion is dead and we have psycho zombie Cat in his place. I hope she dies again.
I think it will be really interesting to see how the mess with the Queens plays out. Pycelle is helping to rule and he probably knows at least some of the crazy shit Cersei's been doing, and he knows exactly what the deal with the moon tea is. Jaime's not going to help, and Loras is doing who knows what. (I'm not as convinced that he's NOT really all fucked up. Martin is just as likely to horribly disfigure a character as he is to only have them get hurt for pretend, and I think it's more likely that Davos gets the Get Out Of Death Free card again.) Anyways it should be good.
Martin sometimes reads chapters at book signings and people summarize them here: (
http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?showforum=14) All of those have spoilers for ADWD, obviously, so don't go reading them if you don't want to know. I've looked at one or two. Tyrions first one is somewhat predictable
I still love how he drinks himself to Pentos though.
I refuse to read that Daenerys 3 one because something big obviously happens, but there it is.
Also "Oh look, a rotting sea cow" = lol. I missed Tyrion.
I too missed Tyrion's wit and the levity he often provides even in the toughest situations.
However, I didn't think Beric was dead. Didn't Brienne see someone with one eye during the hanging scene?
Tumbleweed on 7/12/2005 at 11:30
It was made abundantly clear that he's dead.
Men wearing eyepatches in the Trident would hardly be difficult to come by.

If that was during the Brienne chapter then it's entirely possible... that I missed it.
Also, thanks for that site, Starreh - I'll read at those spoilers while waiting for my wife to finish her viva.

Oh yeah, also remember that Lancel knows all about Cersei and he's now a crazy crusader working for the Head Sparrow, so that throws another twist into that plotline. In the back of my mind I think there might be a chance that Cersei gets out of it, but it would take a whole lot of doing. Either way it'll be interesting to see how it all falls out.
I think the one eyed dude you're talking of is Jack-Be-Lucky. We met him in the last book. Someone asked why they called him lucky when he lost and eye and he said something like "well they were trying to cut my head off weren't they."

Yes, i'm cracking open the coffin on this one.
After starting a 7 page thread on Storm of Swords, i think i have a right to unearth such a fine beast :). Plus pics with Martin, who wouldn't want to revisit this thread?
So anyways, i have not yet read Feast for Crows (*gasp* heresy i know). i know Dance with Dragons is supposed to come out later this year.
i started reading this thread thinking, "Let's see if folks liked it." Problem is so many spoilers started appearing that i had to quit. Can someone please, now that it is over two years later, comment on how this book is relative to the rest of the series? My pleasure reading time is limited these days, so i'm debating buying this one or holding off.
Comments please. And if i'm violating some norm by pulling a dead thread out of the ground, please help me die a violent and painful death.

It's still better than 90% of the other generic fantasy out there, but a fair distance off any of the other books in the series.
The main negatives are the slight case of Jordanitis, it is fairly obvious that it's had a good deal of editorial translocation to split it into two (and it isn't particularly well edited considering how long it took to produce) and its main purpose is clearly to get the players into the position they need to get into for the story to progress rather than having the story itself progress.

I just hate you because I thought it was someone posting to say he'd finally finished A Dance With Dragons :|

Okay so I might aswell ask.
Is there an ETA for Dance of Dragons yet?
Starrfall on 15/3/2008 at 18:01
Nope. He swears he's going to post it on his website before he even calls his publisher though and we know there's going to be a new POV character from either the Hound or Melisandre or Loras Tyrell.
