So, I've modified my cam.cfg file to read:
game_screen_size 1600 1200
...but when I start a new game, it's obviously in 640x480. When I go into the video options menu, it *says* it's 1600x1200, but it just isn't. Is there anything more I can do? Here's the full cam.cfg in case anything is obviously wrong:
Code:
; $Header: r:/prj/cam/src/RCS/cam.cfg 1.17 1999/06/28 14:38:52 mwhite Exp $
; hey, which game is this
game shock
; general configs
include_user_cfg user.cfg
editor_include_dromed_cfg dromed.cfg
; game specific paths/configs
dark_include_install_cfg darkinst.cfg
shock_include_install_cfg install.cfg
; set trait cache to include concretes
trait_cache_flags 2
sfx_vol_music -474
skip_intro
sfx_device 1
game_screen_size 1600 1200
game_screen_depth 16
gamma 1.
game_hardware 1
game_screen_flags 13
sfx_vol_2d 0
sfx_channels 8
game_full_screen 1
master_volume 0
sfx_vol_3d 0
Thanks guys I really appreciate any help!

There's no problem with your cam.cfg as far as I can see. (
http://kolya.pastebin.com/m6084a7ba) I have basically the same cfg, only with the safe_texture_manager line and a bit different order of lines.
Do you perhaps have an additional user.cfg/dromed.cfg with different settings? Does your hardware support 1600x1200?

Ahh you're right! I have a 1920x1200 LCD monitor, but in order to play at 1600x1200 I had to add it as a custom resolution in the nvidia control panel. Thanks!! :thumb:

What does running it in widescreen do to the aspect ratio? Does it get stretched? When I tried changing the res in th cam.cfg file to 1600x1050 it didn't work either when I went in game.

Do you mean 1680x1050?
I turned on the "fixed aspect ratio" setting in the nvidia control panel, so when I run in 1600x1200 (on a 1920x1200 WS monitor), it just adds vertical black bars on the left and right sides. It's much better than playing with the game all stretched out.

My monitor has a setting to automatically use a letterbox for resolutions smaller than the maximum, so that's no trouble. I was just hoping there was some way to make it render at the maximum resolution of my widescreen monitor.

Yeah... I tried it in widescreen, but it just wasn't playable. The field of view is messed up, the hybrids look fat, the interface is stretched, and the worst part in my opinion was the doorways looked hilariously short, like you have to crouch to fit underneath.

is it possible to play the game in a similar fashion on ATI cards?
(or perhaps in the meantime someone found a way to make the game work in a proper widescreen mode, not stretched but with a broader field of view?)

Can you explain how you did this?
I've tried to create a custom resolution, and setting the resolution to 800x600 with the 'fixed aspect' to 1440x900 (and vice-versa), but this hasn't worked.
