I don't know if this is the well-known standard solution to this problem, I just kinda stumbled upon it almost by accident. It's just outside that bloomin' awful maze on the bridge, in which infinite autobombs bother you while you're trying to sort out the wiring. I soon realised shooting them all was a terrible idea, so I lured them all into this hole (once you get 16 in there, you can go back into the maze and destroy any remaining bombs - no more will spawn). It took a while.
So worth it though. I now have my very own autombomb playpen. When I come back to visit them, they look so pleased to see me - looking up at me with their big red eyes, all jostling & bumping into each other like a big basket of cute exploding puppies. <3 And there are so many ways to detonate them, it never gets old*

really not a good idea if you intend to go back into the maze, ohhhhh noooooo.

Your anecdote makes me smile :D
Espeshially your explodyng puppy basket imagery.
I find them playful...always nipping at my heels.

I didn't realise that there was a limit to autobomb production - that's excellent.
Big question though - what do you feed them with?

Haha, they seem to like Hacker best. I fell in by accident when the count was up to about 12 and the explosion threw me back out of the pit! Haven't been able to replicate that yet. Once I jumped in and found myself surfing on top of the autobombs for a short while before they detonated.
I'm not sure if *they* like it, but I find feeding them a frag grenade or a single magnum round is fun :ebil:
I'd had a glance through the ICE Breaker document and remembered seeing the respawn statistics for each creature/level. The bridge has a population of 19 autobombs to begin with, and if it ever drops below 16 a few more will spawn. The spawn points seem to be all over the maze, so it's kinda dangerous to be deep in there. With your shields up, you can run & gun your way through, use a logic probe on the wires and get out asap, but it doesn't seem like an elegent solution to me. I wonder if there are other ways of tackling this?
Oh, and I was thinking of uploading my save file if anyone wants to see it. Still shots don't do them justice :cheeky:

Well, I'm just wondering how would my good old 486 DX100 would react back in the day if I'd let sixteen Autobombs get together on the screen. Most likely, framerate would drop to 1 fps :p

I must have played SS on my first PC, which I think was a P75. That machine couldn't run it at a playable rate at 640x480, full screen. I remember switching up to that mode and marvelling at how amazing the graphics looked - "I wish I could play it like this <sniff> oh, if only I had a P200" - before switching back down and getting on with the game :)

I used to play the floppy disk version on my 486, and even that one sometimes would get slow, which always made hesitate between playing full screen or with the reduced field of vision.

Very nicely done. I'd like to take a peek with that file, if you don't mind. :)

Cool... not sure what to do about uploading the file, having problems with my webspace at the moment (booo, Virgin Media) and these forums don't have an attchment function, do they?
So instead, if you PM me an email address, I'll send it to you.
