The patch now allows this.
G36s are available 2 ways - first, it's part of the reward for completing the bandit faction questline. It's also sold by bandits at Tier 3, but they give you one then so it doesn't count. The fetch quest in the Military Warehouses that used to give an Fn200 now gives a G36. Bandits and Freedom can upgrade this weapon.
FN200 is now available as a quest reward for the final storyline quest before the point of no return. After the bridge fight, before entering Limansk, go all the way back to the clear sky base. Trader will have an Fn200 for you. The Clear Sky techie can upgrade this, and since the reward also includes 50,000 RUs, you'll pretty much upgrade it right away.
Faction rewards are a little over the top now, aren't they? Bandits give a g36, freedom gives a dragunov and an exoskel. Not sure what duty or stalkers give, but you can bet it's much, much more worthwhile now.

Interesting, also weird because I thought the Dragunov was Duty's characteristic weapon, since the first game anyway.

Uh, I've never seen a Dutier with a Dragunov. Don't you mean Groza?
I didn't play CS

The Duty guy immediately under Voronin's command that sold you weapons and armor had one, and the weapon's description was "Widely used in all operations of the Soviet and Russian armies until 1960. Proved to be an exceptionally reliable and handy weapon. Sniper rifle of choice by the experienced Stalkers of the "Duty" faction."

Thanks for the info. It seems I'll not be able to get G36/upgrade it because both bandits and freedom are hostile to me, and even if I join Stalkers (I'm with Duty now), Freedom won't become neutral - I killed too many of them during factions war. I guess the fetch quest in the Military Warehouses is given by Freedom, yes?

Yes, abundance of money again. I thought the money balance was about perfect in 1.5.00-1.5.04, but people yelled they couldn't get enough money for anything, so devs decided to cater their wishes. I would like a mod that returns the money rewards as they were in 1.5.04.

I got Dragunov from Freedom base, one of the guys at the bar had it. I killed him and picked up the rifle during attack on the base.
PS: Just yesterday I got to the Red Forest for the first time. I think the place has more of the SoC's atmosphere than any rewamped SoC's map.

I don't know who actually gives the quest. I haven't been able to get anyone at all to give me any quests in the mil base.
At any rate, now that I've got one it seems almost useless, since now there is an SVU laying on the ground in the military base. Not quite as accurate as an SVD - but you can run with it, so it's become my primary weapon.

I'd done the fetch quest at the Military Warehouses that netted you the FT 200M on a previous game (1.5.04), it's given by a Freedom member hanging about near the centre of the map. In my most recent game on 1.5.05 I wasn't able to get quests off anyone there, in fact I had trouble getting quests from anyone anywhere. :erg:

Why? Everyone hates you or what? ;)

I'm not sure about this, but when I played the game(1.5.04) it seemed like there's a sort of limit on the amount of "normal" quests you can accept at once. That is, I had to complete one fetch quest for one guy before the others would give me any.
