Well, I've started up the game and selected Morrowind as my place of origin... I didn't know that would make me a Dark Elf :) And how did Morrowind become an island?
Anyway, it's funny how you start as a prisoner (that seems to be a general plot start in RPGs), and how it just happens that there's a key conveniantely lying in that... huge cell.
I didn't get too far though, I got mangled by a rat :eek: before I could figure out where the attack button was. :erm:
And, those rats sounded the same as a monster in Hexen, and the sound Kain makes when turning into a swarm of bats in Blood Omen... well, Arena predates both of those games for about 3 years, so we know who "stole" from whom :)

The picture isn't clear because its low-res but if you look, the island from Morrowind-the-game makes up about 60% of Morrowind-the-place and amazingly enough, Arena actually gave a REASON for that key to be there, which set it above the rest ;)
Arena was great, back in t'day.

I'm having some trouble with Arena, there's no manual provided with the download...does anyone know what the controls are? I can't access my inventory and I don't seem to have any weapons other than my fists which are not much use against goblins :erg:
It also runs at glacial speed, are there any tricks to hurry it up a little?

OK, never mind about the above questions, I've got the game running reasonably fast. My next problem is that when I approach the Shift Gate in the starter dungeon, I get a text box asking me questions about the costs of certain spells, such as Open. I haven't got any of the spells-the text says to look in the part of the spellbook known as the manual (or something very similar to that). Whatever I type in response the game then crashes back to the DOS window.

Have a look in the Arena\Docs directory. The Arena106 Setup.doc contains all of the commands and copy protection info you could ever want! :)

The key got there by magic. Really.
And yes you'll notice lots of sounds in Arena that are in other games and even movies. Becuase they got them off roalty free database of sounds.
And this just adds to my massive Elder Scrolls collection. Need to burn a CD of it. Arena 10th anniversy edition.
