If it wasn't your intention, it was very gauche then.
Also, it's not that new since we didn't waited for newdark to take missions from a game and adapt them to another. I did it with Overlord's Ending so, I've clearly seen the issue and differences so I do have experience.
Besides : even if you were right, and we could check all the packs to see which does contain enough textures and models to make some TG maps working in T2, you are completely forgetting my point about the motions, the scripts, the gamesystem and sounds which are covered by none of the packs since those only replace vanillia textures and models which is clearly not enough like I explained.
Plus, most of the packs are either designed for the OMs only so you can still meet bad layout and sinking furnitures if no dml are made for compatibility, or just stick to visual ie models and textures only.
Sounds, scripts, motions, interface, commands, books and unused models hidden in the resource (rarely remade so absent from mod packs) will be missing.
So, even if this method is new, just by being aware of the resources of the two games and the overall content of the mod packs, you can already forsee the problems.
I can garantee you that at least one little something will be missing no matter the mission you try, even if it looks playbale so it won't worth it.

This one little something actually occured - Toulomne mentioned problem with rope arrow shortcut not working, but it wasn't big deal for him. He didn't beat the whole mission, so it's possible that he encountered more problems later.
I think the real question is how many problems potencial player will encounter while playing via this method. If not many, then it's possible that players will keep using it to play TG Fan Missions without purchasing TG despite the risk. On the other hand, it's true, it's not my business how other people are playing FMs.

You know, TG goes on sale on steam/gog very frequently for less than a dollar, perhaps its time to make a small purchase as well. Well worth the investment imo if it means playing missions like this! :thumb:

1) It seems crazy to me to play a FM using a setup that you KNOW is likely to cause issues. Every time you get stuck, you'd be wondering: "did something break? Or do I just have something left to discover/figure out?" Why put yourself through that?
2) This also seems super unethical. Why not pay to legally own the game that we all love? Moreover, I would discourage anyone trying to test the boundaries of what is/isn't possible in this situation---and especially sharing their findings. This isn't something people should be trying to promote. If people actually do make sufficient inroads on making this workable, it could cause legal issues for the entire FM community.

Just an experiment, I don't have experience with level-building in Thief so I am not familiar with the technical details, but yes I do know they are different games. @FireMage, I don't really read through a thread of a mission I haven't completed, so I wouldn't have seen whatever you might have said before (and in general, I'm a pretty infrequent and new visitor to this forum). I was intrigued when I started it and it didn't crash or seem broken in an immediately obvious way, so I played through it as a scientific experiment out of curiosity more than anything, also the mission was so damn good it was hard to find a reason to put it down :D
PS: I believe I already own Thief Gold on gog.com but it's a whole hassle to get it running on my Mac through Wineskin blah blah, I also have very limited HD space on my dinosaur computer, whereas Thief 2 I've already got running flawlessly, I've barely scratched the surface of Thief 2 FMs as I'm a relative newcomer to the scene, and on the whole I prefer Thief 2 over Thief 1 / Thief Gold somewhat (though love them both, and have played through the originals several times a few years ago before discovering FMs). I know there are fantastic missions for Thief Gold, but I'd rather just focus on Thief 2 for some time anyway even if that means missing out on a few of the contest FMs.

No wonder this one won the contest, well-deserved! :) Loved it even though I hate the undead:angel:

You know back then (like 10 years ago) I bought the original thief gold CD on ebay for 20 Euro (about 20 dollars) and in that moment I was the happiest girl alive. Best investment I ever made:cheeky:
Edit: Or was it about 15 years ago?!

interesting concept..but it seems this mission isn't even finished... lots of missing textures... unless I got the wrong download link...
