Actually, I thought games
were done by committee. Meetings, emails, whiteboards, conferencing...

That was my reply to him on twitter. They're designed by corporations and focus groups...so need to hear what the fans have to say.

That's just flat out insulting to them, NH. They're a studio under Eidos, just like LGS was when they made Thief, just like Arkane was when they made Dishonored. What makes EM a bunch of corporate drones compared to them?

I didn't say they were corporate drones, I said Corporations and Focus Groups make games....and that's quite true. Games are made to make money, so sacrifices are made....more so today than fifteen years ago. The more money that is at stake, the more you have to fit within a certain model. Seriously, that's pretty much the norm for AAA anything...movies, games, music. Mainstream is the way it is for a reason. Anyway, I deleted it.
In any case. There comes a time when you just have to walk away and that's what I'm going to do. The EM forums are inhospitable, so I left there and for me watching the development of this game is like watching someone I dearly cherish being smashed with a hammer.
So yeah, just going to walk away and focus on things I should be focusing on...like life.
Later folks.

They don't make the games, though they can have more say in them than they should. We don't know how much influence these two aspects have had on the development of Thief 4. A lot? A little? We don't know. Why assume the absolute worst?

LGS only had a publishing agreement with Eidos. They were an Indie studio until the end.
Completely different situation.

Most games follow a template, just like most movies. The more money invested, the closer they follow the template...unless the project is self funded.
Anyway Renz. I'm feeling like a tired old man. Time to bow out quietly before I really get angry.
The current gaming industry isn't for me and this new Thief interpretation isn't for me. Don't want any part of it and I've just found myself getting far too angry about this crap lately.
So, I'm going to go. I'm sure the game will entertain a lot of people. Just not me.
Later.

Just about as polite a way of saying 'Sit down and shut up' as I've ever seen.
Seriously? That's what you got out of that reply? You imagined a rude response to stoke your ire?
People. Congratulations. You've turned TTLG into the new NMA Fallout boards. A bunch of overly hysterical, self entitled know-it-alls griping about each and every little thing you can come across, because...
...why?
Because you all love being victimized. Of course they're not going to understand
us. We're special, oldschool gamers with
taste. Additions to the game like making a character agile is against Thief. We'll say we're open minded, and we only want the best game possible, but when we treat a goddamn developer saying something as simple as "games aren't designed by committee" as a personal insult, like they spit in our faces..well...
...it kinda proves all our supposed good intentions and claims of "hoping for the best" are just lip service. We're bitching just to bitch. We don't want to like this game. And we never will.
I really need to quit coming down here. Follow NH's example and move on. Stick to the Gengamer Thief 4 thread, where things are at least relatively sane, and there's a much better chance of having a discussion without jtr7 popping in to scream about how we don't understand what he's saying, Spandex beating his chest. I don't want to risk contributing even the smallest part to this damn pity party circle jerk you've all made for yourselves down here. I'm afraid things might go critical down here, and I'll suddenly see this cancerous little subsection of TTLG metastasize into other parts of the board, ruining everything for the rest of us.
CUZ MY GOD, DID YOU HEAR? THEY HAD THE NERVE TO SAY THEY'RE TRYING TO LIVE UP TO THE LEGACY OF THIEF! THE NERVE OF THOSE F***S! THE ARROGANCE! I HOPE THEIR CHILDREN DIE IN A FIRE! RARRRR!

They only want male gamers for their playtest? Screw them!
I'm in the SF Bay Area, but since Eidos doesn't want the opinions of female players, I'll give them my focus group opinion here for free: Bad move. Very, very bad move, dropping SR for the dumbest of reasons.
I'm fairly new to the Thief series, brought to it by Razorfist's recommendations, and I thought my timing was perfect with a new one coming out. But I'm not planning to buy this game. It's not only the VA change that made up my mind, it's the developers talking about their game. I don't like what I'm hearing. Their "it's a Thief game, really really it is" while everything else they say screams "we have no idea why you play these games" reminds me of Dragon Age developers talking about DA2 prior to its release. There's a bad smell in the room.

If EM comes out with a demo that's actually playable by the gamers and not just a showcase for pretty graphics and cutscenes with oh-wow-look-what-we-can-do animation, then I'll definitely play it. That'll give me an indication of whether or not I'll spend any money on T4. Besides, I have an old friend (who refuses to belong to forums/clubs that would have him as a member) whom I know will buy T4 just out of curiosity and if I really feel the yen to play it I can always borrow his copy. He did that with TDS and the week after he bought it I found it in my mailbox with a note saying, 'Throw it in the trash if you don't want it. Store wouldn't refund my money'. The highlight of this forum was SR posting here; after that everything seemed to go to hell in a handbasket. (Yeah, I know I contributed to some of the craziness. My apologies to all but one.)
Yeah, I think I'm pretty much done here too. As NH said, I've found myself getting far too angry about this crap lately. It's just not worth it.
I love you guys, but I think I'll hang out at the other places here at TTLG for awhile. See ya there.
