I signed it, though this isn't something I'd normally do. I'm really looking forward to the new game. I'm open to a reboot, and I'm open to them creating a new character.
However, the developers said themselves that Garrett is key to Thief and that it's important to bring him back, but the only way to do that is to bring back Stephen Russell. Otherwise they're only bringing back the name, and that's honestly a bit disrespectful.

That's pretty much my take on it too. Having said that they toyed with the idea of a new character but recognised the popular draw of Garrett - to redesign him to the extent that Stephen Russell apparently no longer fits as a voice actor is a bit wonky me thinks.
Maybe the foreign version fans of Thief have a different take as to whether Russell is such a big deal - but really I'm a bit confused about what EM are trying to achieve with this reboot. I'm not yet seeing anything new that's all that tantalising, and some of the best bits of the old seem to be being dropped.

The problem isn't just that Stephen Russell isn't voicing Garrett. The problem is that EM is so utterly clueless that they don't realize how important Stephen Russell is to Thief which means they're likely just as clueless about a great many Thief related concerns. My hopes and expectations for this game have crashed.

Unless I'm not catching your sarcasm, I really wonder why many people here prefer a cheesy line spoken by SR in a TDS trailer to the not-as-bad lines from the original new trailer. I get the feeling that elements from the previous games are by now randomly thrown around for the sake of
some argument against the Kafkaesque EM-studio-butchering-Thief threat.
I guess the original games can be considered pearls by now. Once foreign particles that were covered by its consumers again and again in layers of admiration and romanticisation until it became somehow shiny but without a really clear understanding of how all that happened. Or short: I guess some people are more in love with their image of Thief than the original games, in fact everyone is. And now they measure some slowly leaked game-related facts against their impression of playing as if it was directly possible to anticipate the impression to come.

I wasn't being sarcastic. Mostly I find the new voice to sound a little bit too cocky and I miss the old style of music. I don't think it's a bad trailer, and I'm not going to judge the game by that trailer anyway. I'm keeping an open mind.

Stephen Russell is the voice of Garrett! I'm still in shock that there's going to be a new one. Think I better start saving my pennies for a new computer!
