I signed the petition, but refuse to sign the card. If the card were being sent by a bunch of grateful and well meaning fans that would be one thing. But I don't trust EM anymore and to me (just
my opinion, mind you) EM sending SR a 'thank you card' is akin to just giving him a gold watch and saying 'Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out'.
I found the FB page for the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater in Wellfleet, Mass and asked ever so nicely if SR is still affiliated with their theater group. They responded promptly that '
Absolutely! He's holding auditions for WHAT for Kids! this Saturday'. So I sent a message to Mr. Russell via the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater and asked that they pass it on, suggesting that SR visit TTLG (T4 forums in particular) so he can see just how dedicated and loyal his fans are. I also mentioned the petition. I know he'll get the message that way, with no possibility of rewrites, or rewording (not that I believe EM would do anything like that, of course).
Looks like R(andom)T(affer) found my post and added his own message to SR. ;)

I find the timing to be the worst part of this e-card idea. Had they done this from the start, I would take it at face value, and likely participate. To suddenly run with this
after people start clamoring for SR's return makes it feel more like an attempt to circumvent or counter the idea behind the petition, and if nothing else, feels very disingenuous.

Well said, Specter. I absolutely agree.

Get what you're saying , but this is a fan's idea. EM didn't tell that fan when to come up with the idea.

I expect there will still be riots in the streets. :cheeky:
On a serious note, though. The thank you card doesn't effect the petition at all, if that's what you are worried about. This opportunity is for fans to send personal messages to SR, nothing more and nothing less. It is unfortunate that some refuse to sign it because they think its not sincere. EM's only involvement is they offered to pass the messages on directly to Mr Russell. That's it. Sending the messages to SR doesn't circumvent or counter any idea behind the petition... or not that I can imagine.

I'm sure the fan who came up with the idea over at EM meant well. It's just that to have EM send the card to SR strikes some people as being rather tacky, considering the lame excuses they've given for not hiring him even after they had him in their studios.
At least fans seem to realize that there are other ways of contacting Mr. Russell than by going through EM to do so.

I thought it was thoughtful of them to reach out and offer. The matter of not employing SR is understandably a sore point for some, yes.
Its good that Mr Russell can still be contacted. As I said, I think its important he gets to read all the messages. :thumb:

I have to admit I was a tad apprehensive when I posted that message on the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater FB page; concerned that they may not approve of messages to individuals affiliated with their group. But to my delight, they have approved - in the form of 'Liking' the messages posted on their FB page so far. I find this encouraging and believe Mr. Russell will definitely be receiving all messages posted to his attention.

I'm
most definitely going to pay a visit to their theater this summer when I go out East to visit my cousin! :cheeky:

I don't know who came up with what idea and when, but EM's involvement came at a most opportune time. Perhaps it is simply coincidental, but I, lowly being that I am, believe that such a sentiment would mean far more coming from the community than from EM. If they have chosen to not use him at all, then why should they have any involvement in expressing appreciation for him? They were not involved in the other games, they are not prominent members of this community, so why should they be the conveyers of our appreciation?

Well said again, Specter. I think the fan messages will mean more and have less an unpleasant undertone coming directly from the fans, not EM. Even though I understand that it was a well-meaning fan who started the idea of a thank you card to Mr. Russell, other fans have found alternate ways of expressing our thanks to him without involving the very company that gave him the axe in the first place.

Personally, after what I've experienced since 2009, I do not trust EM to not "clean up" our messages. This is a consequence of hiding the truth over and over and over and...
