The concern is that there are too few people signing the thank you card, sadly.
Sadly? lol
Im afraid that the intentions behind this card of yours are awkward at best.

Easy does it. It's not what you think, and it
is your opinion being taken into account. It looks like two opinions, is all. People will go by their own opinion, but if they read your seemingly two-sided opinion, they might get confused or take it wrong. This is happening all the time, especially with something we are so passionate about.
I should probably clarify here, personally I'm of the opinion that Stephens not coming back. I just think that the new guy is too ingrained in the project for them to just start over now, no matter how hard we protest in SR's defense. Honestly I can't really see myself ever warming to the new guy. However that's just my own view, and I'm ok with others thinking differently.
However, my own opinions aside, the card idea was created with the "thank you notes" intention. Just because I was personally saying my farewells (and thank yous,) it doesn't mean that this was the purpose of the entire project. At its heart it really is just an appreciation thing. People are free to pay their respects with whatever intention in mind, as long as it isn't argument or debate.

Personally, I had the exact same thought as the rest of you, about it being a trick... and it may well be, so in that case I did one where I made it clear in the letter I was not saying goodbye or farewell, and that we here are fighting the good fight to get him back... a pretty long letter actually, and I left a link for him to drop by these forums if he gets a chance. I am as dedicated to getting him back as the rest of you taffers, but really, I had to write something to him, this was the first oppurtunity I've had in over a decade to do so, so I did. Can't pass that chance up.

I didn't think it was a trick, but I do believe it can be ruined for us, but my intentions are my own, so I kept S.R. himself in mind, not the possibility of misdirection.
The blending of the petition and the thank yous is confusing me and apparently too many people, and it's a shame. Of course I thought the petitioners, being more numerous, should consider the thank yous, too, but that's as far as that got.

What's the hurry to send it to him? Why not wait until the new game comes out or at least wait a few months? More time, more time for more people to sign. I'm not ready to sign yet. Things are still too raw. Feels a little like here's your gold watch, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. I know you don't mean it that way, but I'm only up to about 5 or 6 of the 7 Stages of Grief. I exaggerate for effect, but yeah, I'm bothered by the whole deal.

Thank you for putting into words that which I could not, Nuth. Well said.

Hopefully you signed the petition too. :)

I don't think there's ever a bad time to say thanks, and it's waaaaay overdue for me. I wanted to share this here as well because SR's voice has meant so much to me:
Mr. Russell,
I can't adequately express how much I've appreciated your characterization of Garrett throughout the Thief series. I discovered the games at a very low point in my life (I had just been diagnosed with a fatal heart disease). I escaped into the Thief universe for some time and though it may sound silly, feeling like I could "become" Garrett for even a short period of time helped me to cope with my real life struggles. That would have never happened if you had not done such a great job at making me believe I was truly a professional Thief - able to rise above the circumstances and master my own destiny. I return to the games today for a bit of that escapism and the voice of Garrett warms my heart like an old friend. I'm not a fanatical "gamer" per se, but Thief and Garrett have become an important part of my own story, and I've been excited to introduce the master thief to my children and friends throughout the years. It wouldn't have meant as much without your characterization, and for all this I will be eternally grateful. Your work has helped me in such a tangible way, and I just wanted to let you know and say thank you. I hope events change course and you will be able to continue voicing this character who looms so large in the imagination and wonder of so many fans.
