for some who is interested: maybe some of you know, Paul sent me the audio of the original "out of the shadows" trailer, but without the dialogue.
I sent him another mail, and simply asked him "Was Stephen Russell in the original trailer? "

That's a very hard question to answer so for now I'll say 'no comment'.
Shamed be he who thinks evil of it. :ebil:

Something tells me that Stephen Russell wouldn't cost millions.
What an ignorant reply. I wasn't saying he would cost millions, but it would be an additional, and totally unnecessary cost. I was saying that reworking the entire mechanics of game movement systems would cost millions of dollars, both in terms of actual expenditure and in terms of theoretical dollars lost by not maximizing your marketing campaign's hype train.

Much more than a "handful of old fans on an obscure old forum" appreciate his work.
95% of the target audience for a AAA game wouldn't be able to tell the difference, or particularly care enough for it to matter. Fun fact.

Not a fact, really. In any case my point still stands. If all the poll did was let Stephen Russell know that his work is appreciated, then it was worth it.

Speaking of Russell, wasn't EM going to pass a message or something along to him? Whatever happened to that?

They were probably too embarrassed to do it in the end.

Pretty sure it has already been passed along.

It's not like whining harder about swimming, jumping, leaning, and Stephen Russell will make them suddenly change their minds and delay the game by a year and spend millions more on development just to make a handful of fans on an obscure old forum happy.
An obscure old forum that you seem to regularly participate in. Tell me, before this new Thief, where would an English speaking Thief fan likely go for all things Thief? This forum is only as obscure as Thief itself is. The people here, some of them the 'handful of fans' you refer to, have done more for Thief than anyone from EM to date.

I just listened to IGN's review of the Thief Story trailer, and one of the two commentators said they'd pay $10 for a Stephen Russel DLC.

I've been coming to this forum on and off for over 8 years, that doesn't mean it's a huge community. Mixnmojo.com's forums have been going for years too, doesn't mean they have a particularly large community.
I'm not sure if you're aware, but most people under 20 have never heard of Thief until now. Unfortunately, people under 20 make up an enormously significant portion of the gaming audience. Even in its time, Thief wasn't exactly a huge blockbuster success. It did well, and people knew of it, but it's always been a niche game.
Thief is a pretty obscure title in the modern consciousness.

Well... when NewDark came out, the count of people viewing our Thief Forums (which on average is 20-30 people at any given time) on one of the first days was 1400 if I remember. So yes we do have a decent size community, even if a lot of them are lurkers (I was one myself for 4 or 5 years before I finally joined).
