Not only is that insulting, it makes no sense whatsoever. We're talking about a voice here, despite their bs about "motion capture", it makes no sense. They really are going out of their way to alienate the fans.

What a slap in the face to Stephen Russell, the fans, and Thief.

It's the very definition of cherry-picking! You're taking the comment in isolation and ignoring the context.
See, I think that's bullshit. When asked specifically about Stephen Russell, they in turn specifically brought up the name Adam West in comparison as a justification for their choice of changing voice actors. They figure if we visualize Adam West fighting Tom Hardy, we'll automatically associate that ridiculousness with the Stephen Russell vs. Romano Orzari VO work as well. Sorry EM, we're not that dumb.
You're saying the Adam West comment is taken out of context, but if you read the question in that interview, the context
is all about Stephen Russell and why he's been replaced, and not the Thief reboot overall.
The end result is the comparison doesn't work at all, and any Thief fan should see right through it. We're not actually talking about Stephen Russell being in the game here, we're not even lobbying for him to do his own motion capture or stunts - we just want his voice. Voices don't get outdated or need updating.
The other thing that bothers me about their Batman stuff is that they're comparing the original Batman series from the 1960s, which was very lighthearted and fun and probably would have been rated G in the theaters, to Christopher Nolan's 2000s Batman, which is overly dark, completely humorless, and just plain dismal sometimes. It's not a good side-by-side, mainly because EM themselves keep talking about "respecting the DNA" and keeping the mood and atmosphere of the new game very similar to the original. You wouldn't have heard Christopher Nolan slinging that shit in any pre-Batman Begins interviews.
I would respect EM so much more if they just said "we're doing our own thing this time around" instead of acting all holy and claiming they are keeping all the old school fans in mind. It's disingenuous. Just having water arrows in the game isn't enough.
Edit: I don't know who Gamestar is, but they spelled both Garrett and Stephen Russell's names wrong. :tsktsk:

Brethren, and if you read the previous questions in the interview, you'll see the context. You guys keep telling me it's not being taken out of context ... and then completely ignoring the context in your supporting arguments! I don't get it.
And yes, as I said before, I completely agree about EM trying to sleazily associate their changes with Nolan's changes, and I agree it's a silly comparison. Thief was never campy.

Like I said before, I think their idea of respecting the fans and staying true to the legacy boils down to "We can do whatever we want, just as long as we call it
Thief"

Sorry Chade, I just disagree. In the case of an interview with specific, pointed questions, the context is always changing. Just because they make a certain point three questions up, doesn't mean it applies to the current question. I'm just as frustrated (as you seem to be) by the fact that you can't see that.

Fair enough, let's leave it. :)
