Oh, come on ... the Adam West line is just running with the example he used earlier in the interview. Not that I think the batman comparison is all that appropriate, mind you.
This quote hints at potentially exciting things. Seems like the story won't stop at "greedy Baron".

The current ruling Baron of House Northcrest is relentlessly driving the City forward into a future of cold technology, industry and progress. This ruthless vision comes at a high price for the common people who fall sick and starving beneath this crushing wheel. With the old gods long forgotten, the people rally behind a single, passionate voice willing to speak against their iron leader ... Fuelled by this political conflict, something much deeper and darker threatens the City itself and all those in it. Yet to make matters even more compelling for our Master Thief, something happens to Garrett personally that pulls him inexorably towards dealing with a problem he never thought he would face.

This is (

Quote:
"We want to give some homage to previous games, but if you compare this to what Christopher Nolan did with the Batman franchise - it's still the same main character, still the same Bruce Wayne, but on the other hand it looks completely different to what's gone before, different costume, and no Adam West! That's the type of thing we're aiming to go for."

Right, so ... the Adam West thing isn't really aimed at Russell, is it? It's how they're talking about the whole reboot.

It's irrelevant whether or not they're talking about the whole reboot, they're still saying Stephen Russell = Adam West, which is FRACKING ridiculous!!!

They're staying on a message. It doesn't make sense to cherry-pick one instance where the message is particularly egregious and ignore the wider context in which they are pushing the message.
As I said earlier, I think the Batman comparison is a bit off, although I understand why they are pushing it because of course Nolan's batman reboot has a lot of credibility and they want to be associated with that. I think you could get legitimately (albeit less) outraged about the broader comparison. But what you and others are doing by cherry-picking the Stephen Russel quote is just plain silly.

It's not cherry picking, it's simply reading what was said....and it's a stupid comment. If you want to talk about the 'broader comparison' then they're comparing the original games to Adam West's campy 60's TV show and their game to the Ultra Dark, mature and sophisticated Nolan Series of movies. I wouldn't go so far as to call myself outraged, I'm bothered by it though. I find their comments soaked in ignorance and completely lacking in humility. They should shut up, make their game, and get over themselves.
Chade on 3/7/2013 at 02:29
It's the very definition of cherry-picking! You're taking the comment in isolation and ignoring the context.
I also think the comparison is silly, although I wouldn't go around ascribing personality traits based on PR strategies. That seems like an unrealistic thing to do.

I cannot agree with your trivialization of EM comparing Stephen Russell to Adam West. It is an insulting statement to make, regardless of it being a "running example."
Vae on 3/7/2013 at 02:43
It is of course a stupid, disrespectful, mischaracterization of the true Garrett...and this is just another example of EM's unsavory contempt for the THIEF Universe.
Thanks, FatherMerrin...
