I like his guards and hammers more than russells. Plus Raoul is in it for like two minutes! Karras is brilliant work though.

It's a pretty awesome two minutes though.
In some ways, it seems like EM is going out of their way to not involve anyone from any previous Thief project. Even with not using Russell for Garrett, they could have at least brought him and/or Dan in for some part time voice work to do the guard voices, how awesome would that have been. Well, maybe they'll surprise us.

Since there are people who make fan missions and who are willing to spend some time on making artwork and such and even make Thief 2X, I bet that with such a wedge of spite between Eidos and the fans as well as the long waiting for a proper Thief sequel to add to the motivation to make a satisfying sequel already, if there was a mediocre budget we could all make a better Thief sequel than Eidos attempted. And we could even hire Stephen Russell to do the voice acting, and much more. The graphics don't need to be top-notch, I mean if Minecraft can do that well, why wouldn't a really good Thief sequel make a tremendeous success? And it could be put out for download for free, make it non-next-gen-exclusive, or maybe even charge a few bucks to pay for another sequel after it? Just an idea.
So I started getting some ideas of what kind of features would be fun to have in a hypothetical fan-made sequel, and I thought I'd write them down before I forget them, then I figured maybe others have even better suggestions so it would be fun to discuss it. So I'd like some feedback and opinions on these from you all:
* Ability to peek through keyholes
* Easter egg: I based this partially on Razorfist's opinion that there were too many undead in Thief TDP, that reducing the ammount of zombies would be good, and this one idea in particular I thought of can be coupled with the keyhole-peeking, and that is for Garrett to sneak about in a castle in some level in the darkness of a hallway far up into one of the towers. When he peeks through the keyhole of one room in particular he will see somebody painfully turning into a zombie or werewolf or some other thing you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.
* Pagans and hammerites to be less common on the streets, but confined to certain areas, and not patrolling the streets like the city guards.
* A kind of schedule and real-time play. So for instance during the day it is day in the game, and during the night it is night in the game(doesn't necessarily have to be actual time, just a suggestion, but the main point is to have some sort of in-game world addon to the Deadly Shadows world), and he has limits and needs to be fulfilled, sort of making the whole preparations for thievery or burglary a bit more part of the game, like in DS having to go to the shops and get the equipment. And the real-time play would allow for those who sleep in their rooms at night when you're breaking in, to wake up by and by at some point, adding some difficulty in form of deadlines when you're playing the game.
So some sub-features of this would be:
* The ability to eat is brought back, but that there is no meter to indicate if he is hungry or not, that instead it goes by his stomach making noises, and when he's had enough he'll say something to indicate it, and if he is too full he indicates that by another sound and subsequently can't run as fast or something like that.
* When he becomes tired he'll start swaying like he's getting drunk or so, more and more the longer he goes without necessary sleep, and if he doesn't sleep for days he just collapses regardless of where he is.
* A mission where Garrett has to get to a damp, cold, dark village but the only way to get there is to traverse a dense forest which becomes dangerous at night, and maybe more easter eggs can be put into that mission, so the player could make sure to finish that objective during the day or run through disoriented and panicking by night. This could help stretch the game out a bit too so you don't finish it in a day. Also there could be side-missions like if you get caught inside a castle or rich person's home where you shouldn't be, and manage to escape, it will be a matter of days before the guard squads arrive at your door and arrest you. Like the mission in Thief 2 where he has to get to his home and pack his belongings so he can flee.
I'm pretty certain I'll have some more ideas, but I wanted to share these with you and see what you all think of them.

So basically you just want to add a bunch of different features than those EM added or cut and muddy the gameplay up in a different way? lol

If you mean he could be hired to play Garrett, no he absolutely could not. Garrett is the property of Square Enix / Eidos and you can be sure there are contracts and Union rules that would prevent Mr. Russell from doing anything that would get him into legal hot water.

Sure, but he could just play some anonymous, everyday thief too.

Why would I want to "cut and muddy the gameplay"?
I'm not thinking of adding things which I think would mess it all up. Otherwise I might as well say "You know what, I think it would be fun to add tanks and spaceships into the sequel!". It should be pretty obvious.
But they removed the food for example from the first two games, and in them the food used to regenerate some health if eaten enough. It must've seemed pretty pointless to the developers so they removed it. I'm thinking it didn't have to be removed, but could serve some more realistic purpose, and remain as a feature therefore.
And I personally, as well as a few others I know, did like the whole system of walking through different zones in one big city in Deadly Shadows, why not expand that universe further and give the player more scenes to explore? I thought of this because of Thief TDP when you've got places like the haunted cathedral, the lost city, the maw, or in Thief 2: TMA in that forest when you're looking for the wounded pagan or Angelwatch, the docks in Thief DS - I mean the potential for a really sturdy universe is great. And I know everybody likes exploring. But it wouldn't really make sense for no daylight whatsoever throughout the entire game if the player is left to his own devices and can explore for a very long time.
Then the sleep-thing came out of the fact that he holds his breath when swimming and when Garrett holds a bow and an arrow strung to it, overtime he will have to let it go. I liked that, because it makes it all more realistic. But it would be even better, in my opinion, if there would be something such that Garrett(or whatever protagonist it is) for example can't run through an entire mission without halting and not be out of breath, or if there would be time passing then it wouldn't make sense to run around in town and breaking into mansions etc. for days on end without getting tired or sleepy whatsoever. The fact that you can't fight off 15 guards simultaneously is extremely realistic, and the fact that if you jump from a building you will fall to your death if the fall is too far, this whole dose of reality is what gives it(at least in my opinion) a proper depth.
And to peek through keyholes is pretty useful for a thief, if he's already going to unlock a door he'd like to know if there might be something unpleasant on the other side. This came to mind when he had to eavesdrop on the conversation between Gorman Truart and Karras, and I felt like I wanted to try and see the two speaking in secret.
As for the easter egg, it came to mind because of the spellbook in the Necromancer's Tower from Thief 2: TMA, why not utilize the new unique feature of peeking through keyholes to add something creepy like that again? Or at least I liked the ugly surprise in the tower.

It seems like they're going out of their way to offend the existing fanbase. Still not sure what their ultimate aim is by doing this.

Interviewer: "Why did you eventually decide [against Russell as Garrett]?"
Guy from Eidos: "Imagine having Adam West fight Kane in the most recent Batman film..."
:tsktsk:

^-- (No idea if he actually said "Kane", by the way, but that's how the text quotes him...)

Not even Micheal Keaton... Adam West, that's how antiquated Russell's Garrett is in their eyes.
