I wouldn't be surprised if there were an easter egg planet somewhere that was basically Skyrim. I know Nirnroot made it in, although apparently it's not something you can interact with.

Been playing a few hours and come across one film reference so far, part of the UC line which gives a house at the end, I had to track down a robot, after powering him up the response I got was Ba weep granna weep ninny bong, hopefully most people will know where it's from!

I would have never figured that out, but I stopped watching toy commercials like 35 years ago.

FYI: People cannot truely believe that starfield is well optimized... Compare it with Crysis 3 from 2013... A game that is well optimized and runs on the start of the mid tear pc spec range.
Crysis 3 looks super awesome compared to the shit starfield looks like. The water in that game DOESNT even have reflections... they are ALL fake reflections. ALL OF THEM.
They didnt even put the crappy ssr in. Fo4 probably looks better then starfield. What a joke of a game :/ so sad.

Of the many many reasons to dislike a game, water not having proper reflections might be the lamest. It's up there with "bad writing" for me.

Youre right that was a bit short sighted of me, but i will stick with my crysis 3 comparison. There is 10 years between these games, except for the remaster ofc but then it still works.
Starfield is a let down from a visual stand point. :/

Personally I'd prefer good writing and good reflections.

I want games to have interactive narrative systems that work with the other systems of the game to create cool and sometimes unexpected reactivity (I'm assuming Disco Elysium is like this but it's still in my backlog), but otherwise I find the writing in games is just background noise. If I want good writing I can grab something off my bookshelf and read it. It's the same issue with how games have spent 20-25 years trying to be films. Why would I play a barely interactive game with a meh story when I could spend 2 hours watching a great film.
As far as graphics go, I care more about style than I do about being wowed technically. I think the last time a game wowed me visually it was probably playing Quake on a Voodoo 2 for the first time. And I wish people would focus on how shitty sound is in games as much as they do on graphics. I can't rermember the last time I played a game where the audio wasn't complete garbage, and I'll refrain from ranting about how good we had it in Thief which was literally 25 years ago.

I'm looking forward to this game, but I definitely take back my prediction that this game is going to set a Gold Standard for defining the best of contemporary gaming. It's already coming across as pretty dated in its own genre and par for the course as a Bethesda RPG, which granted is still enough to make me excited for that part at least.
Honestly I think there's a kind of curse for immersive space exploration games that's also hit early No Man's Sky, Elite Dangerous, famously Star Citizen, and some others. People are going to hold the to a special level of scrutiny, unless they fit into some kind of very specific niche (like the X series).

Are you saying narrative systems are more important than the quality of the writing? Because, naah. A perfectly linear narrative works well in video games, as evidenced by... well, hundreds of games. Seriously: TLOU, Undertale, Max Payne, Thief, take your pick. But a fancy narrative system won't turn bad writing suddenly compelling. Yeah Disco Elysium has a complex narrative system, but the reason it's beloved is because the
writing is great.
