Well, there's open world like Stalker and open world like GTA. I hope it's more like the former rather than the latter.

Is it too much to want the gameplay-driven C&C of Deus Ex married to the narrative-driven C&C of Alpha Protocol?

I... don't think you get to serve people as a bartender in Cyberpunk 2077, but I guess you could just fix your own drinks and rip it up with Billy Idol playing in the background as a good enough substitute.
have you played it? they alluded to this whole dystopian city, where you just happened to be a bartender living out your life. They even had a Jensen-like assasin character who would pop into the bar every now and then.

If Cyberpunk 2077 is open world then it'll be better than I expected. I was thinking it was going to have discrete levels like Deus Ex.
Ban this man for preferring something that's not like Deus Ex!I like what I'm reading about CBP2077, I'm just hoping it doesn't go too far in the direction of GTA. Technically, The Witcher 3 was already structurally closer to GTA V than it was to Dragon Age or Bethesda Game⢠and I love it almost as much as Deus Ex, but have to see if it carries over well to a presumably higher-density setting like Night City.
Skyrim Very Special Edition steals the show, of course.

For the record I'm talking about the recent Deus Exes, not the original. The original wasn't open world but the levels were still huge and very open. Stalker and Dishonored are the other good examples of that. That's fine, even great, if you're going to do discrete levels at all. It's a nice compromise position. But the new Deus Exes were way too cramped and railroaded for my taste, and that's what I worried about here.

That's fair, I still haven't gotten around to playing DX4, but I get your point on Human Revolution.
I was actually expecting CDPR to split the city by district, but if they're confident they can do it all in one worldpsace, cool, let's see.

I'm pretty skeptical, cynical and jaded when it comes to E3, but I gotta admit, the written previews describing the uncut demo of Cyberpunk 2077 has got me slobbering with anticipation.
It basically sounds like a blend of the original Deus Ex, GTA V, and The Witcher 3. If they pull it off -- and from what we've seen them accomplish with The Witcher 3 and the time and resources they can leverage to get this right, it seems they could -- WOW.

Square Enix conference:
Games of note:
* Shadows of The Tomb Raider
Rest was meh.
Ubisoft:
* Assassin's Creed - Odyssey
* Beyond Good and Evil 2 (Joseph Gordon Lewitt is the co-founder of a media company? WTF. Did NOT see that coming)
* Starfox
* The Division 2
* Transference - Elijah Wood is running a company now as well? What the. Interesting looking game. Hope they keep the FMV in there.
Good conference overall.
PC Gaming Show:
Wow. This has a very small crowd compared to the other conferences that I've watched so far. Far less of a professional style. Far quieter.
Games of note:
* Jurassic Park: Evolution - Ok this one I'd play. Looks great.
* Maneater - Some good laughs around this one. The female host made a joke without thinking it through. Much audience hilarity ensues.
* Morning Star - Looks interesting. I'd never buy it. But it looks interesting.
* Overwhelm - Another one I'd not buy. But it looks interesting.
* Some nice stuff from Sega. Shenmue, Valkyria Chronicles 4 and others.
* Star Control Origins
* Stormland - Finally they got someone on stage from a big company. Game looks excellent. Makes me want to get an Oculus Rift.

It's on my list of things to get to eventually. But first, I remembered I should probably finish The Red Strings Club. Too many things to play. :erg:

Ah, too bad. :) Yeah, the TV show format and cutscenes thing can be pretty off-putting when you wanna just get back to the game. Anyway, looking forward to seeing more of this, but 2019's a ways off. :erg:
Which is the entire reason I didn't want to have anything to do with Quantum Break. CONTROL looks promising though, and I did have fun with Alan Wake.
